Strange fruit... well erm... vegetables
OK, I had no idea what these things were when I received them from someone at work. Turns out her yoga teacher gets paid in home grown organic vegetables from this crazy woman he knows who doesn't have much money... and she does a lot of yoga. So these vegetables are passed on and on and on... eventually some made it to me!
I was told that the large one was a giant courgette and the smaller a squash... upon closer inspection and reference to taxanomic sources (the internet) I decided that this was almost correct and they were in fact a reasonable sized marrow and a mini crookneck squash. If the marrow had been picked earlier in its growing life would it still be a courgette? I'm still not clear on that... but anyway.. I had to work out what to do with it before it turned to mush.
I decided on that great British summer treat, nice warming hearty soup to keep the chill off.
Marrow and lentil soup with gluten free flat bread and white bean hummous. These are all recipes I shamelessly stole from the internet and take no glory for how nice they are...(just how nice I made them look?) They did taste good too :)
The poor lonely crookneck squash is still in my fridge... (at the time of writing) 1 month later :(
